Jalgaon: The National Horticulture Board has included the banana cluster of Jalgaon district in the Cluster Development Programme launched by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Government of India. This initiative will help take Jalgaon bananas to the international market and provide financial help of up to Rs 100 crore to farmers and traders taking part in the cluster.

Banana farming takes place on around 68,000 hectares in Jalgaon. Raver, Yawal, Muktainagar, and Chopda talukas are the key production areas because the land, water and climate of these areas are conducive to banana farming. The demand for Jalgaon bananas has been gradually growing in the domestic and global markets.

Under this scheme, farmers will receive high-quality saplings through tissue culture, modern tools, and planting materials, and they will also get scientific training. World-class facilities such as warehouses, pack houses, ripening chambers, processing units, and cold chains will be made available to them for better post-harvest results and to increase the production of quality bananas that meet world standards. Emphasis will be given to logistics, marketing, and branding to make banana exports more effective so that Jalgaon bananas gain wider recognition across the world.
