Snake plant
The snake plant is one of the toughest indoor and balcony plants you can grow. It also grows well in balconies that get harsh afternoon sunlight, making it perfect for Indian apartments.
Most flowering plants struggle in peak summer, but bougainvillea actually blooms better in strong sunlight. The more heat it gets, the brighter and fuller the flowers become.
It needs very little water once settled and adds instant colour to dull balconies without demanding constant care.
Aloe vera
Aloe vera is one of the easiest plants to grow in Indian weather. It stores water inside its leaves, which helps it survive extreme heat with minimal watering.
Apart from looking neat on balconies, it is also useful for skin care, sunburns and small cuts during summer.
Jade plant
The jade plant may look delicate, but it handles dry heat very well. Since its leaves store moisture, it doesn’t dry out quickly even during hot afternoons.
It works especially well for small balconies because it stays compact and requires very little attention.
Hibiscus
Hibiscus plants love warm Indian weather and can continue flowering through most of summer if watered properly.
Its large colourful flowers instantly brighten balconies and also attract butterflies, giving small urban spaces a more natural feel.
Portulaca
Also called “moss rose,” portulaca is one of the best summer flowering plants for Indian homes. It can tolerate intense sunlight for hours and still bloom beautifully.
Even beginners can grow it easily because it requires very little maintenance once planted.
