In an exclusive interview with Shri Ram Shaw (Associate Editor, Nursery Today), Bhupendra Chaturvedi divulged the details about career scope in Horticulture sector, his primary objective to identify and address the challenges within the landscape industry, the greatest threat to Earth and its solutions, and et al.

Kindly, tell us something about yourself and about your “Grotech”.
I am Bhupendra Chaturvedi, the Managing Director of Grotech Landscape. Grotech has been a prominent player in India’s landscape industry for over 30 years. It has not only played a pivotal role in shaping the landscape sector in the country but has also imparted valuable lessons on harmonizing with nature.

What ignited this passion in you to protect nature?
My passion for nature preservation is deeply rooted in my upbringing. Raised in various locations across Rajasthan due to my father’s postings in the police, I was exposed to diverse geographies, environmental zones, and agricultural practices. This early exposure allowed me to gain insights into the behavior of different natural zones. Upon relocating to Delhi, I recognized a significant potential in the landscape trade. This realization, coupled with my strong desire to respect and coexist with nature, led me to pursue a livelihood that harmonizes with the environment.

Are you an environmental scientist?
While I may not hold formal credentials as an environmental scientist, I believe that everyone possesses an innate capacity to understand and appreciate environmental science. My work has equipped me with a substantial knowledge of plants and their behavior, a crucial aspect for the success of my work.

What are your aims?
My primary objective is to identify and address the challenges within the landscape industry. Throughout my career, I have observed that the standardization of landscape development practices remains a significant challenge. Additionally, creating seamless collaboration among all stakeholders within the industry’s supply chain has been an ongoing hurdle. Grotech has been successful in simplifying these processes, ensuring the successful execution of complex projects.

What is the career scope in Horticulture sector?
The horticulture sector offers immense career potential. India, as one of the world’s largest countries, has a continuous demand for horticultural expertise. To effectively manage our ecological resources across diverse geographies, we require more skilled professionals and experts. I am confident that the younger generation can tap into this promising market.

What do you think is the greatest threat to Earth today?
The most significant threat to Earth today is the human race and the divisions within our society.

What do you think is the solution?
The solution lies in celebrating our diversity and differences. By effectively managing our resources while preserving the balance of nature and leveraging our skills for sustainable work, we can achieve harmony and address these challenges.

Do you think technological advancements can minimise the impact on nature?
Technological advancements are tools that, in themselves, do not inherently have a positive or negative impact on the environment. The consequences depend on how we, as a society, choose to use and apply technology. Our motivations and intentions will determine whether technology minimizes its impact on nature.
